The embattled Deputy Governor of Ondo state, Agboola Ajayi has been urged to honourably resign from office since he is now pursuing governorship bid in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).
According to the World Bishops’ Council(WBC) in Africa, his refusal to vacate office may create political tension in the state.
Speaking through its spokesman, Bishop Seun Adeoye, who is also the National Director of ‘ The Light Bearers’ the group urged Ajayi to give peace a chance in the state in the interest of its citizenry.
He expressed dismay at the current political imbroglio in Ondo State.
According to him, since both governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu got into office through a joint ticket and same political platform, the sensible thing for the Deputy Governor to do after parting way with the governor and his former party is to resign.
The statement said” We wish to advise Ondo State Deputy Governor to allow peace to reign in the State. He should be grateful to Akeredolu for picking him to run and govern the state with him.
“As a Christian, he should be quite aware of the word of God as stated in Proverbs 17 vs 13 which states thus, “If a man pays back evil for good, evil will never leave his house”.
“Since he has broken camp with his boss and benefactor, he should complete the cycle by leaving the government honourably. Playing the spoiler’s game and heating up the polity the way Ajayi is doing now, is ungodly.
“We advise him as a child of God to tow the path of honour by promptly resigning his Deputy Governorship position and pursue the path of peace.
“His exit from the position and current executive cannot block the plan of GOD for his life. We urge the Deputy Governor to let peace reign in the State.
“The people of Ondo State also deserve to live in peace. We wish the Deputy Governor of Ondo State all the very bests in his future and advise him to practice politics with the fear of God”.
Bishop Adeoye said the major concept of The ‘Lightbearers’ which has its base in Osogbo, Osun State capital is to promote a better society and support government at all levels in its endeavours to build a great nation.
