Forty eight hours to the local government council elections in Ondo state, divergent views had been trailing its conduct, especially in Akoko area of the Northern District of the state.
According to the minority leader of the state House of Assembly, Mr Rasheed Elegbeleye, his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) does not consider the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) as a free and independent agency.
He alleged that all its officials are card carrying members of the ruling APC’s government in the state.
The lawmaker advocated scrapping of the electoral body nationwide in order to have free and fair elections at the grassroots.
He noted that the opposition PDP in Ondo state would not participate in the exercise.
The chairman, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Akoko North West local government, Alhaji Basiru Aminu condemned the recent attack in Idanre local government ahead of the coming local government poll.
He urged the citizenry to allow peace to reign in the state before, during and after the election.
Also, an Anglican Priest, Canon Isaac Awowole reminded politicians that power belongs to God, urging them to shun do or die politics.
Awowole advocated good governance from those who win election, saying” local government is no more what it used to be in the past in terms of visible development.
