The Arole Oodua and Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, is leading a crusade in favour of herbal medicine in Africa. The monarch said pandemics are not new in the society, referring to the years of our forefathers. The Oba said our forefathers overcame such medical challenges through the use of herbs, shrubs, tree roots among others.
Oba Ogunwusi said those raw items possess healing powers despite lack of clinical processes to make them internationally acceptable, but yet, the end result in achieved. According to him, efforts are in advanced stage in producing clinically approved herbal medicine for diseases not only Coronavirus but for others such as; cancer, malaria, HIV among others.
Ooni Ogunwusi said African Herbal Medicine Team is now working in collaboration with Professors of Pharmacy and Medicine as well as National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). According to the monarch, the project has reached an advanced stage with the stakeholders excited at the progress being made on herbal medicine.
Ooni declared this recently in a chat with journalists in his palace after donating two motorized fumigating machines to the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan.
