Barely two weeks after which nine lives were lost in an auto crash in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo state, another road accident occurred at Ikare Akoko, the headquarters of Akoko North East local government on Saturday claiming one live, while two others sustained injuries.
Eye witness said a primeria car coming from Ogbagi axis of Ado Ekiti-Ikare road lost control and killed one person on the spot.
The car was said to be on high speed while descending the hill at Okorun area of Ikare and the driver was shouting out that he had brake failure.
At last, he knocked down two men on Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with another person walking on the road.
The men of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Ikare unit were promptly at hand for rescue operation.
The unit head of operation and acting unit commander, Mr kabir Mohammed confirmed that one person lost his life, while two others who were critically injured were taken to the State Specialist Hospital Ikare Akoko.
Mohammed attributed the cause of the accident to brake failure, urging motorists to always see that vehicles are in good order before putting them on the roads.
He revealed that the vehicle’s driver survived the incident.
While commenting, the Chief Medical Director of the State Specialist Hospital, Ikare-Akoko, Dr Ayodele Ogunlade, confirmed the incident and disclosed that a corpse had been deposited at the mortuary while the two others with various degree of injuries were receiving treatment at the emergency unit of the hospital.
An Ikare Akoko transporter, Mr Conway Ogunleye revealed that a fatal accident occurred at the same spot where four lives were lost a fortnight ago due to brake failure while another one occurred at Okerigbo claiming nine lives at Akungba-Akoko.
Another community leader, chief Teddy Ojuolape, urged government to curb incessant motor accidents by dualizing the road which is another gateway from Ekiti state to Ondo state.
