Former Secretary to the Ondo State Government (SSG) Ifedayo Abegunde (a.k.a Abena) who resigned from Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s administration has returned to the fold ahead of October 10 governorship poll.
Abegunde resigned his appointment in June and declared his support for one of the governorship aspirants, Segun Abraham.
Abraham, who participated in the July 20 APC governorship shadow election lost to Akeredolu.
The former SSG later rallied support for another governorship aspirant, Ife Oyedele after Abraham withdrew from the primary election to join Akeredolu.
It would be recalled that Abegunde, was swiftly replaced with another Akure man and former Commissioner for Natural Resources, Tayo Oluwatuyi (aka Tukana) as new SSG.
However, on Sunday evening, Abegunde retraced his steps and met with Akeredolu at the Government House, Alagbaka for reconciliation.
With his return to Akeredolu’s fold, the former SSG will be joining political gladiators in Akure, the state capital to lead the APC in the forthcoming October 10, 2020 governorship election.
They will jointly tackle the candidate of the major opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), who is also an illustrious son of Akure.
Sources at the meeting said Abegunde, who met the governor with his (Akeredolu)’s kinsman and former commissioner for special duties, Femi Adekanbi, had settled Abegunde’s differences with the Governor.
It said, “it is true, Abena (Abegunde) was with the Governor on Sunday evening. They have settled their differences. From now on, he will be working with other APC faithful to facilitate victory for the APC and Akeredolu in the forthcoming election”.
