A fatal multiple road accident that claimed nine lives while many others sustained various degrees of injuries occured on Monday night at the university community of Akungba-Akoko.
It occurred around 9.30 pm.
It was learnt that a truck lost control due to brake failure right from the deadly Okerigbo hill and the driver managed the vehicle up to Abata area of Akungba where he collided with an 18 passengers Lagos-Katsina bound bus and other vehicles and an Okada rider.
It was the loud bang which resulted from the collusion that woke many residents on the fateful night.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Akungba-Akoko, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Shakiru Ajibola, said Police efforts with that of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) officers and the local residents made the rescue efforts successful.
He confirmed that seven corpses were taken to Iwaro-Oka General Hospital mortuary.
Two critically injured victims were taken to the State Specialist Hospital, Ikare Akoko but were confirmed dead later according to the Chief Medical Director(CMD) of the hospital, Dr Ayodele Ogunlade.
A community leader from Akungba Akoko, Chief Saliu Awesu, urged government to do more in reducing Okerigbo hill like it was done for Oke-alabojuto in Ikare Akoko in order to save lives and properties.
Only last week, four persons, including a pregnant woman lost their lives along Oloko area in Okorun, Ikare due to brake failure of an articulated vehicle.
