The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) will ensure that the senior national men and women teams face quality opposition as part of their preparations for the 2020 Olympic Games.
Afolabi Oni, the federation’s Media Coordinator, made this known in a statement on Thursday in Lagos.
“While briefing board members during their first meeting of the year, held in Lagos, the NBBF President, Musa Kida, said no stone would be left unturned in their preparations.
“We have received some friendly game invitations from countries from Europe, America and Africa. We are currently going through these requests to pick the best for our teams.
“The teams will be facing some quality opposition from different continents and it is expedient that they play friendly matches with very competitive opposition,” Oni stated.
He added that the teams in the friendlies would provide something close to what D’Tigers and D’Tigress were going to face at the Tokyo Games.
“We have not decided on the countries to play against, but in the coming weeks, we will finalise all arrangements and make the big announcements,” the federation spokesman added.
Both teams, ranked number one respectively in Africa, emerged as the only ones in team sports flying the country’s flag in Tokyo after an unprecedented qualification.
