Almajirai are mostly children from poor financial background with little or no parental care. It is mostly practice in the northern Nigeria. Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna recently visited about 200 almajirai repatriated from Nasara State. They are rehabilitated by Kaduna State Government at the Government College, Kurmin Mashi, Kaduna.

Governor El-Rufai said in his statement at the centre that any Islamic cleric who engages any child as alamiri would be prosecuted, convicted and fine between N100,000 to N200,000 per child so engaged.

The governor also promised that Almajiri who are indigene of the state would be rehabilitated, treated and enrolled in to regular school close to their parents without hindrance.

“They will also access Quranic education under the supervision of their parents. Kaduna State would be out of the menace of Alimajiri system”.

The governor declares that Almajiri system is not education but abuse of child and his future. Governor El-Rufai lamented.
