As early as 6:00am Sunday morning, a group of youths from Egba and Adugbe communities went on rampage against Adana community all in Agatu Local Government Area, Benue State. TopSearch Magazine gathered.
According to a source who preferred anonymity, both Egba and Adugbe communities colluded with some other hired thugs and launched an unexpected attack on Adana community and later extended to Olegeje and Aila communities. The magazine gathered.
Some Adana community members were yet to wake that fateful day, while some were preparing for church when the thugs invaded the community. The source informed the magazine that not less 15 people were killed while more than 25 are now missing.
According to a community source, the quick intervention of military “Operation Whirl Stroke” curtailed the crisis and overpowered the thugs. The military troop has apprehended one of the gang leaders called Alh Audu who has taken the soldiers to where ammunitions are kept for the illicit job they do. Names of the gang members from neighboring communities were also mentioned to the soldiers.
The magazine also reliably gathered that both Egba and Adana communities having been living without peace for years back. But the Sunday incident caught everybody unaware because there was no basis for the violence. TopSearch gathered.
Confirming the attack, the Benue Command Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Catherine Anene confirmed the communal clash and said police has recovered three corpses against 10 claimed by the community.
