The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has appointed Dr Tommy Okon as its acting National President.
ASCSN’s Secretary-General, Mr Alade Lawal, in a statement issued on Thursday, said Okon, who, until his appointment, was a National Vice President of the association, would oversee its activities until the National Executive Council (NEC) directed otherwise.
“The National Executive Council (NEC) of ASCN, at an emergency meeting held in Abuja on March 16, unanimously resolved to appoint Okon as acting National President to oversee the activities of the association until NEC directs otherwise.
“This appointment is sequel to certain unforeseen developments that stared the union in the face,” the secretary-general said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Okon, a two-term unit chairman of the association at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, had attended International Labour Organisation (ILO) conferences in Geneva, Switzerland, for more than 10 years.
According to Lawal, Okon is also abreast with contemporary industrial relations and best practices at the global level, including the structures and workings of trade unions, in line with ILO standards. (NAN)
