Anambra to Train Tricycle Operators, says Transport Commissioner

The Commissioner for Transport in Anambra, Mr Afam Mbanefo, said the state government had concluded plans to train tricycle operators in the state.
Mbanefo stated this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Thursday, adding that the training would hold in the three senatorial districts in the state.
He stated that the training was slated for October 26, adding that the operators would be made to undergo driving tests, enumerated and captured in the ministry’s database.
He said that successful operators would be issued with Class ‘A’ driver’s licence at the end of the training.
Mbanefo stated that the exercise became necessary because of the established cases of recklessness among the tricycle operators in the state.
“This development has continued to pose danger to their lives and those of their passengers and other road users in the state,” he further stated.
He advised the operators to take advantage of the opportunity to get trained and licensed to operate in the state.
The commissioner warned  that  defaulters would have their tricycles impounded with effect from December 1, while they would be prosecuted. (NAN)
